Mrs. Kamla, Project Director, addressed the participants and reflected on the origins of the International Labour Day ,and how it started in India.
Mr. Hari Ram, Director, addressed the participants and expressed his conviction that the suffering of the Labourers is due to the ignorance of Labour Laws and Government Schemes. He appealed the workers to become more proactive and know their rights.
Mr. Ram Kailash ,Clerk ,Labour Department :explained about the process of registration at the labour department is not all that difficult as publicised. The process of registration that occurs every year does not pose any financial burden on the labour , and if they are adamant they can get it done provided they have 90 days of work evidence and in the case of MGNREGA the time is 50 days. Workers must ensure that they get the certification of their work from the employer. If that is denied the employer is liable for judicial action.
Mr. Siya Ram , Zila Panchayat Representative, he stressed upon the need of integration of labour and the importance of education. He appealed to the people in attendance that education must be imparted to their children so they can rid themselves of the predisposition of manual labour.
Mr. Sanjai Tiwari, Pradhan, provided the information on MGNREGA.
Mr. Jagdish Singh, President, NSSS , he said the most recurrent problem is with holding of wages and this can be avoided through a simple expedient of getting a written agreement called “iqrarnama” between workers and owners.
He also asserted that the unity among workers is essential in the way of gaining entitlements without getting into legal hassles. Laboureres must initiate integration and empower the existing ones.
Mr. Hiramani Chaubey, Coordinator, pressed upon the fact that the Shramik Sahayata Kendras (Labour Help Center) are committed to support the migrants labour and their family members.
Paryavaran Evam Prodyogiki Utthan Samiti (PEPUS) is non-profit, non-governmental organization, implementing various programmes in the state of Uttar Pradesh. PEPUS envisions “Establishment of an exploitation free society”. PEPUS firmly believes that all the sections of the society must be self reliant and at the same time inter and intra dependency should be there.
