Policy & Program for Rehabilitation of Working Children and Manual for the Implementation of National Child Labour Project

Published By : Central Board for Workers Education | Publish Date : 01 Dec, 2006

Children are an index of nation's level of development, both societal and economic, how they are taken care and nurtured. However, there are large number of children who are left outside their legitimate place in school and playgrounds and are subjected to work and employment due to conditions of poverty and distress. Realizing the multi-faceted nature of this problem, the Government of India has embarked on a journey of holistic and prolonged eradication of child labour in a phased manner. Based on the 'National Policy on Child Labour' announced in 1987, the government launched the 'National Child Labour Project' in 1988 in the few identified child labour prone districts of the country. The NCLP began its work in 9 districts of the country and thereafter has been enlarged to cover a wider area. Based on the experience of implementing this scheme for 15 years across the country, the government devised a revised strategy for the NCLP program in its 10th Plan.
