Discovering Our Voices: Agrasar

Women’s day was celebrated with full vigor and vitality. An interactive session was facilitated by our cheerful young leader in making Sonam Singh, a Societymaker team member. The women gathered together, flipped through the pages of history of women’s day celebration. We gained insights into why we celebrate it today and the root of its origin. And this we was not it, we reflected and shared instances of why we still need to celebrate such a day. We patted each other’s back for what we have achieved. And also motivated each other to continue working hard and move forward. For Shabina”coming out of the house and negotiating with her husband to work” was a new beginning. While for our trainer Sonam “becoming a trainer from a housewife” was a great achievement! For Sandhya “educating herself ” with little support from home was a source of strength. She expressed that education makes a big difference whether we take up an employment or not. She feels that education played a crucial role in helping her run her household effectively and efficiently. While for Neetu the simple act of “interacting and mingling with people of different culture” was a source of happiness and joy. This was not it. After this energetic exchange of ideas, we saw a clipping on “Shri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad” to understand their journey and how it transformed into a cooperative. The budding Societymakers could very well relate to it. Apart from understanding how it began with the initial capital of just INR 80, the key takeaway was that profit was fairly shared amongst the women irrespective of their level/roles. We ended the celebration leaving them with the thought of what change they seek in their lives today as we discussed this year’s theme #BeboldforChange. It was indeed and a day full of joy, enthusiasm, and inspiration.
