During the month of May, SSK organized Legal Clinic Day, facilitated the linking of workers to their entitlements under the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment & Conditions of Service) Act, and set up two mobile kiosks at fairs and market places to share details about facilities and schemes available for migrant workers.

Legal Clinic Day

SSK counsels migrant workers about wage payment issues, at the Legal Clinic Day in Ghaziabad.

SSK organized a Legal Clinic Day on the 30th of May at the SSK Ghaziabad office. During this event, 14 cases related to wage payment were presented, and workers were counselled and offered legal advice. Four case mediations with the contractors involved in the case were carried out over the phone.

During Legal Clinic Day, discussions were held on migrant rights, goverment facilities and schemes, and details of 14 schemes for building and construction labourers were presented.

This month one case of delayed payment was solved after mediation at the MRC Ghaziabad, and the worker involved was paid his dues worth Rs 3,000.

BOCW Linkages

SSK reports that in the month of May, 18 migrants have been linked to benefits and entitlement under the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment & Conditions of Service) Act.

Further, six migrants received solar lighting facilities, 12 migrants received bicycles worth Rs. 3000 each from the labor office at Ghaziabad. The total value of benefits received by the beneficiaries stands at Rs 92,400.

 SSK Mobile Kiosks

Migrant workers crowd the SSK Mobile Kiosks set up at the Zind Baba Fair and a weekly market in Sitapur, to provide information to migrant workers

SSK set up mobile kiosks at Zind Baba Fair, Tikariya and at the weekly market at Parsendi block in Sitapur District (UP). Through these kiosks, SSK reached out to over 450 migrants.

This month the focus of the kiosk was to generate awareness about the Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojna.  During the information-sharing sessions, SSK reports that the migrants who visited the kiosk took interest for the scheme and do want to know more about it. The kiosk facilitators directed interested people to the Sharamik Sahayata Kendras for more details, and to register themselves under the scheme.

SSK is a support organisation and centre for participatory learning, which works for the empowerment of socially and economically backward communities by promoting their participation for good governance through capacity building of CSOs, CBOs and institutions of self-governance.
