In Southeast Asia, labour migration is an integral component of regional economic integration. The ASEAN economic community (AEC) has envisioned a single market and production base for ASEAN. As most states in ASEAN are developing economies, there are understandably concerns that free movement of people would affect employment and wages of migrant destination countries in the region.
